Las Vegas hospitality workers eligible for Covid-19 vaccine

Casino, hospitality and restaurant workers in Clark County, Nevada are now eligible to receive a Covid-19 vaccination according to the state officials.

Gov. Steve Sisolak’s office said eligibility could soon be expanded to include high-risk residents 55 and older.

Hospitality workers will be able to receive vaccinations at six sites across the Las Vegas region. They are Las Vegas Convention Center; Cashman Center; Canyon Springs High School; Heritage Park Senior Facility; UNLV Student Union; and Nevada Partners.

Workers can schedule appointments through the Southern Nevada Health District website. Each site can deliver approximately 4,000 doses a day.

Nevada Resort Association President Virginia Valentine said, “Opening eligibility to hospitality workers will save lives, increase equity in vaccine distribution given our industry’s diverse workforce and send a clear message to visitors and meeting and convention organizers that Nevada is the world’s safest travel and tourism destination.”

Culinary Local 226 spokeswoman Bethany Kahn also praised the decision, saying, “The Culinary Union applauds Gov. Sisolak for his efforts to include and prioritize allocation to hospitality workers, including Black and brown communities who have been disproportionately impacted by the effects of COVID-19.”

Nevada officials had come under criticism in recent weeks upon reports that several vaccination slots had gone unused in the Las Vegas area.
