Wilton Rancheria tribe secures funding for $500m Elk Grove casino resort
The Wilton Rancheria tribe has obtained financing for its long-mooted $500m casino resort project in Elk Grove, Northern California.
Tribal officials are close to announcing a groundbreaking date for the Wilton Rancheria Resort Casino and Spa, having secured funding for construction.
Plans for the resort go back as far as a 2016 memorandum of understanding that gave the green light for building off reservation land. Work on the 110,000 square-foot casino was supposed to start in June 2020, but was placed on indefinite hold due to financial uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, recent global developments appear to have brought momentum back to the Elk Grove project.
In a letter published Friday 26 February, The Wilton Rancheria Chair’s Office commented: “This historic accomplishment results from over a decade of intensive research, communication, and relationship building with the City of Elk Grove and our Development Partner, Boyd Gaming.”
“As part of this financing, we are also proud to announce that a groundbreaking ceremony is under development and will be announced in the coming days.”
The Wilton Rancheria Resort Casino and Spa will include; more than 2,000 slot machines and 80 table games; a 12-story hotel tower with 302 rooms; and various other off-gaming floor amenities including restaurants, retail outlets and event spaces.
The project was originally announced with a 12-18 month roadmap to completion, so should work proceed unhindered, the resort could welcome its first visitors as early as H1 2022.
