New York casino revenue grows 4.7% for August 2025, sports betting handle reaches $2bn

The New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) has reported the state’s casino and sports wagering performance for August 2025, as casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) grew 4.7% to $65m, while sports wagering generated a handle of just over $2bn and a GGR of $178.2m.
The $2bn handle for August 2025 represents an increase of 41.9% year-over-year and the first time New York bettors have produced a sports wagering handle over $2bn since May. Generating $178.2m in GGR throughout August 2025 equates to an increase of 42.6% from the prior year period, while each figure also showcases growth of 45.9% and 14.5% month-over-month, respectively.
FanDuel managed to generate the highest revenue of any operator in New York for August 2025, reporting $66.9m while DraftKings was a close second at $62.3m. The Flutter Entertainment-owned sportsbook reported an August 2025 handle of $561.9m as compared to DraftKings which took in $579.6m worth of bets throughout the period.
DraftKings was not the only operator to surpass FanDuel in total handle for August 2025, as Fanatics reported a new monthly high with $565.8m generated by New York bettors. The sportsbook reported a GGR of just $16.1m, however, equating to a hold of nearly 2.9%. The new monthly high for Fanatics was primarily driven by a single user wagering close to $120m across one week in August.
BetMGM managed to account for $130.4m of the total August 2025 handle for New York, while Caesars sportsbook produced an additional $113.5m. The operators reported August 2025 GGRs of $13.8m and $10.7m, respectively, throughout the period.

Despite slot revenue increasing by 9.5% from the prior year period to nearly $47m, table game activity witnessed a decrease in revenue of 4.2% for a total of $16.5m, as three of the four casinos which report to the NYSGC generated increases in GGR year-over-year. Rivers Casino produced the highest revenue of any property with a GGR of $20.1m for August 2025, representing an increase of 7.3%.
Del Lago Casino reported an August 2025 GGR of $15.5m, also witnessing the highest year-over-year growth of all properties at 9%. Tioga Downs increased its GGR by approximately $500,000 from the figure reported for August 2024, managing to produce $10.1m while Resorts World Catskills generated the only decrease for August 2025, falling by 1.4% to $19.4m.
With $65m in GGR generated throughout August 2025, the Empire State also managed to increase its casino revenue by 7.3% month-over-month and represents the highest total recorded for 2025 up to this point.
