Maryland August casino revenue drops 2.1%

The state of Maryland has reported its financial results for casinos in August.
In total, gaming revenue came to $170.3m, down 2.1% year-over-year. Of this, $72.2m was contributed to the state, down 1.2%, with $52.4m going to the Education Trust Fund.
By gaming type, video lottery terminals (VLTs, or slots) made $118.2m, while table games made $52m. Of the six casinos operating in the state, MGM National Harbor, the highest-earning property, made $70.1m, down 6.5% year-over-year.
Live! Casino and Hotel, the property with the highest number of slot games (at 3,844) made $63.2m, up 2.1%. Horseshoe Casino’s 1,365 slots and 115 table games made $15.1m, up 4.4% year-over-year.
Ocean Downs also reported growth, up 3.7% to $10.3m. Hollywood Casino reported the sharpest annual revenue decline, down 13% to $6.7m. Finally, the lowest earning casino, Rocky Gap Casino, saw revenue remain relatively unchanged, down 1.1% to $4.9m.
These results come soon after the announcement that bet365 will begin operations in the state. Approval was given to the operator by The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, and marks the 15th state in which bet365 will be able to operate.
