The Soloviev Group and Mohegan have agreed to partner with the New York Council on Problem Gambling (NYCPG) to begin development of a dedicated onsite Problem Gambling Resource Center (PGRC) at the Freedom Plaza venue in Manhattan.
The center will be modeled after Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) PlaySmart facilities located at Mohegan’s Niagara casinos, as well as in close alignment with NYCPG standards. The problem gambling resource facility is set to include interactive kiosks, educational videos on responsible gaming and a “welcoming environment” for individuals in need of support.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to building a venue that prioritizes the health and well-being of our guests. By working together with the NYCPG, we’re establishing a gold standard for responsible gaming in New York,” Soloviev Group CEO Michael Hershman said.
All problem gambling services provided by the PGRC will also be confidential and offered with no charge to ensure accessibility for any individual regardless of their financial circumstances.
“At Mohegan, we believe that creating a world-class gaming experience must go hand in hand with a deep commitment to responsible play,” Mohegan CEO Ray Pineault said.
“Partnering with the NYCPG to establish an onsite resource center at Freedom Plaza reflects our ongoing dedication to supporting guests and team members who may be struggling and ensuring they have access to the tools and support they need. This initiative is a critical step in fostering a safe, informed and community-minded gaming environment for all.”
Good to know: The Soloviev Group and Mohegan reported strong backing from a coalition of 26 New York labor organizations and workforce development partners for its proposed Freedom Plaza project on March 26
Michelle Hadden, Executive Director of the NYCPG, also spoke on the development, having said, “The NYCPG is proud to collaborate with the Soloviev Group in this forward-thinking initiative.
“Together, we’re creating a safe and supportive space within the gaming environment that emphasizes prevention, awareness and recovery.”
The Soloviev Group will collaborate with NYCPG on an initial and annual operating budget as well as participate in a jointly established Problem Gambling Committee to evaluate and enhance outreach efforts.
