Freedom Plaza gains support from 26 New York labor organizations

The Soloviev Group and Mohegan have reported strong backing from a coalition of 26 New York labor organizations and workforce development partners for its proposed Freedom Plaza project in Manhattan.
Memorandums of Understanding have already been signed with labor organizations and workforce development partners such as District Council Nine, The Hotel and Gaming Trades Council and the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 30, among others.
“Freedom Plaza is committed to creating long-term, sustainable economic growth for New York City,” Soloviev Group CEO Michael Hershman said.
“We are proud to have the support of New York’s labor unions and workforce development organizations, who share our vision for a prosperous, thriving community that benefits both workers and residents alike.”
The labor and workforce development leaders are said to be “united” in its support for the project, which is expected to create 17,000 full- and part-time union construction jobs and permanent positions.
“The Hotel and Gaming Trades Council is excited to support Freedom Plaza, a development that will bring high-quality, permanent hospitality jobs to New York City,” The Hotel and Gaming Trades Council President Rich Maroko said.
“As the union for hotel and casino workers in New York, we know that this proposal will offer real opportunities for working people and strengthen the city’s economy.”

In addition to job creation, Soloviev Group and Mohegan stated the companies remain committed to using local vendors for hospitality-related goods and services to further benefit the New York economy.
