The Government of Santa Cruz, Argentina, has organized a meeting with several ministries and institutions, to discuss and address gambling among minors and develop prevention strategies.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Lottery for Social Action Works (LOAS) and its head, Claudia Pavez.
She said: “This is an issue that requires serious attention, and we need to consider what policies to implement in response.
“Young people are not the only ones affected, but we need to be part of both the problem and the solution. This initiative represents an initial step to federalize all actions across the province and extend problem gambling prevention to all communities.”
Pavez announced that additional awareness talks will take place on August 28 and 29 in Río Gallegos, the province’s capital, targeting both young people and adults.
The event will involve various provincial agencies, including the Ministries of Health and Social Development, the Provincial Education Council, the State Secretariat of Public Service and the Youth Center, among others.
The session was designed as a platform for exchange and cross-sector collaboration. According to Pavez, it will be divided into two parts: the first will focus on adults responsible for areas such as mental health, childhood, youth, and older adults. The second part will target young people, with participation from student representatives.
The organizer emphasized the importance of inter-institutional collaboration for the initiative’s success.
Good to know: ALEA recently held a seminar in Buenos Aires on “governance based on legality, transparency, and accountability.”
She added: “The first tools to be shared will be understanding the issue and how to approach it. Besides, two social organizations focused on substance use issues will also participate, contributing their experience to a topic that, while different, has many parallels with gambling addiction.
“Any strategy must be implemented collaboratively and through consensus.”
According to her, this session marks the beginning of efforts to prevent and address the impact of online gambling in Santa Cruz.
Odds tell a story long before the result does. When bettors learn to read that story properly, betting becomes a matter of discipline and value rather than emotion or guesswork.
