Chile: Enjoy Casino relinquishes Casino del Mar operating permit

Key Points
- Enjoy Casino has had its operator license resignation approved for Casino del Mar
- The operator will continue running the Viña del Mar-based casino for now
- The search for a replacement operator of the location is now underway
Casino del Mar operator Enjoy Casino has officially resigned its operating permit for the location in the Chilean city of Viña del Mar, with the organization set to continue running the casino as the application process for new management takes place.
As approved by the Chilean Resolution Council to the Superintendency of Gaming Casinos – alongside various members of the finance, tourism and regional development bodies – Enjoy Casino has initiated an early resignation option for the operational responsibility of its local casino. Indeed, this early license resignation option is available to the operator as it has been running its casino resort for over three years.
However, Enjoy Casino remains obliged to continue performing full operational oversight of Casino del Mar in order to ensure stability for employees of the location – as well as maintaining its economic value as a local tourist attraction. The Resolution Council has estimated that, based on full-year 2024 figures, over the next three years Viña del Mar-based casino will generate revenues exceeding $65.5bn, corresponding to an esitmated gaming tax of $29.2bn.
In the wake of this latest authorization, the bidding process for the next operator of Casino del Mar has officially begun.
Good to know: Enjoy Casino initially submitted its request to terminate its Viña del Mar, Coquimbo and Pucón casino licenses last month
Underlining the licensing application process as part of its statement, the Resolution Council to the Superintendency of Gaming Casinos stated, “The Superintendency’s Decision-Making Council, upon proposal from the latter, will determine the special conditions for granting the operating permit. These conditions will include, among other things, a guaranteed minimum bid, the construction or expansion of the municipality’s tourism infrastructure, and the percentage of casino employees who will continue to provide services. The Superintendency’s proposal must be submitted after a hearing with the municipality.”
Elsewhere in the market, the Chilean Senate successfully advanced a new online wagering bill last week. The bill looks to curb illegal gambling in the nation, seeking the creation of a formal licensing system for operators.
