New York July results: Sports betting and commercial gaming up year-over-year

The New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) has released its financial results for the gaming sector in July 2025. This includes both mobile sports wagering and commercial gaming.
Sports betting
When looking at sports betting results, gross gaming revenue (GGR) came to $155.6m, a sharp dip from the $206.5m reported last month, though an improvement on the $140.3m reported this time last year. Handle followed a similar trend, down 15% month-over-month to $1.4bn but up 11% to $1.26bn.
By operator, Bally Bet reported handle of $9.2m and GGR of $865,910, up 42.3% and 75.3% year-over-year, respectively. BetMGM reported a handle of $98.1m and GGR of $10m, up 10.1% and 13.3% year-over-year, respectively. ESPN Bet reported handle of $37.1m and GGR of $3.9m, with no prior year data to compare to – yet in less than a year, it has surpassed Bally’s and others in earnings.
Good to know: New York reported a monthly sports betting handle of $2bn in October 2023, with a scattering of months, including October 2024, also posting this result. However, recent months have seen the state struggle to recapture these figures
Fanatics saw handle and GRR skyrocket. GGR came to $13.9m, up 55.5%, while handle reached $137.7m, up 80.9% year-over-year.
Looking to the state’s two major players, DraftKings and FanDuel both reported GGR growth, while handle was mixed. DraftKings reported handle of $509.4m and GGR of $52.5m, up 11.5% and 9.5% respectively, while FanDuel pulled ahead in terms of earnings, with handle of $476.9m and GGR of $61.4m. However, these results reflect a slight decline for the operator, with handle down 1.2% year-over-year (despite GGR being up 3.5%).
Some sportsbooks reported declines in handle and GGR, despite overall market growth. Caesars saw handle and GGR down 9.8% to $97.9m and 10.3% to $9.7m, respectively, while Resorts World Bet saw handle and GGR plummet, down 54.8% and 50% respectively. RSI also saw a minor decline, with handle and GGR down by 1.1% and 3.3%, respectively.
Commercial gaming
Turning to commercial gaming in the state, and total GGR came to $60.6m, up 5.9%. Of this, $45.5m went to operators, while the remaining $15.1m was paid in gaming tax.
Slot handle came to $555.6m, with GGR from the segment totaling $45.1m. Table games made $14.3m, with table drop reported at $78m, while poker GGR came to $0.9m. Land-based sports betting made $0.3m in GGR, with a handle of $2.3m.
