MGM Resorts to resume 24/7 hotel operations at three Las Vegas Strip properties
MGM Resorts announced Mandalay Park, Park MGM and The Mirage will return to 24/7 hotel operations beginning March 3.
The properties have implemented mid-week hotel closures in response to decreased travel demands. However, MGM is confident travel will rise in the coming weeks and months.
Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak recently Covid-19 restrictions, allowing casinos to work at 35% capacity whereas before they were limited to 25%.
“As we begin to see positive signs around the public’s sentiment about traveling, coupled with important progress on the vaccination front and decreasing COVID-19 case numbers, bringing Mandalay Bay, Park MGM and The Mirage back to full-week operations is an important step for us,” said Bill Hornbuckle, MGM Resorts’ CEO & President. “We remain optimistic about Las Vegas’ recovery and our ability to bring employees back to work as business volumes allow us to do so.”
During MGM’s fourth quarter 2020 earnings call last week, Hornbuckle said “we’ve got probably three or four months of angst” before Covid-19 restrictions are significantly eased in Las Vegas and other markets.
Mid-week occupancy at Las Vegas was just 25% for the month of December, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Weekend occupancy was 45.4%, which marked a 10% decline from November.
The LVCVA has not yet released January figures.
