- Investigations point to money laundering, criminal conspiracy and asset concealment
Digital influencer Tainá Sousa was arrested in São Luís, Maranhão, in connection with an ongoing criminal investigation into illegal betting promotions tied to online games, including the widely circulated “Jogo do Tigrinho” (Fortune Tiger).
All of her social media accounts were deactivated by the authorities.
According to the Cybercrime Division of Criminal Investigations Department, Sousa allegedly headed a network of social media figures who promoted illegal platforms using content designed to attract followers with promises of easy profits.
Victims were reportedly directed to deposit funds into unregulated platforms, with the origin and flow of funds now under investigation.
The operation resulted in the seizure of over BR11m ($2m) in assets. Among the items confiscated were written records believed to document transactions.
Officials say the network was structured and included a lawyer suspected of handling the alleged money laundering, as well as a manager responsible for coordinating WhatsApp groups used to recruit new participants.
Vehicles and other assets were also reportedly registered under third parties in an effort to obscure ownership.

In addition to the financial allegations, police say Sousa compiled a list of public figures and critics, including lawmakers, journalists and the lead investigator of the operation, as potential targets.
The group could face charges related to illegal gambling, money laundering and criminal association. Investigations remain ongoing.
