Demolition at the Royal Resort scheduled for next month

Key Points
- Water damage because of a fire shut down the resort three years ago
- The facility could not reopen because insurance did not fully cover the damage
- Prior to the demo, the resort is holding a liquidation sale
The Royal Resort in Las Vegas has been scheduled for demolition at the end of next month, according to a local report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The destination caught fire in 2022 and since been closed to the public. General Manager Jim Pazargad explained to local reporters the fire broke out at the non-gaming resort because of guests smoking on the property. As a result, the sprinkler system kicked on, causing water damage throughout the building, according to Pazargad.
“The floor was all wet, water went all the way down to the basement. So we had to shut down the hotel,” Pazargad told the Review-Journal.
He also confirmed the upcoming August demolition to local news.
However, there will be a liquidation sale prior to this. The sale will be for all items inside the hotel, including mattresses, refrigerators, lamps, tables and coffee makers.
The sale will be from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
”It’s kind of sad to see this building going down. It’s history,” Pazargad told local news. “We had the beautiful restaurant, The Barrymore. We had a gift shop like any other hotel. All of a sudden, because of smoking, boom, gone.”
The Royal Resort first opened to the public in 1970. At that time, the property was known as Royal Las Vegas but changed its name to Royal Resort nearly 25 years ago.
