Fantasy Life generates $7m funding round

The investment was reportedly spearheaded by LRMR Ventures, led by LeBron James and Maverick Carter, as well as SC Holdings Co-CEO Jason Stein.
Key Points
- The finding round will go toward supporting Fantasy Life’s new platform launch, Fantasy Hub, and the acquisition of Guillotine League, originally completed in August 2024
- Fantasy Hub offers users a personalized space for daily player insights, real-time data, league tools and a fantasy scoreboard
Fantasy Life, originally founded by NBC Sports analyst Matthew Berry in 2020, has completed a $7m funding seed round spearheaded by LRMR Ventures and SC Holdings, set to go toward supporting the company’s Fantasy Hub platform launch and its acquisition of Guillotine League.
“My entire adult life has been about helping fantasy players and sports gamers win, have more fun, and make this industry better. Fantasy Life is the culmination of my decades of experience — a destination for every kind of player, from beginner to sharp,” Berry said.
“With smart, personalized tools, entertaining content and the best damn fantasy game ever in Guillotine Leagues, we’re building a platform as obsessed with fantasy as we are. I’m incredibly honored that so many people I’ve long admired believe in what we’re doing and want to be part of the journey. I can’t wait for everyone to check out the new features and win more titles.”
LRMR Ventures is led by NBA star LeBron James and CEO Maverick Carter, while SC Holdings Co-CEO Jason Stein helped support Fantasy Life’s funding round as well. Fellow investors include Miami Marlins Co-Owner Roger Ehrenberg, YouTube Co-Founder Chad Hurley and Jacksonville Jaguars Owner Tony Khan.
“We’re always looking for opportunities to invest in smart, creative people and businesses that share our values. What Matthew, Eliot and the team are building with Fantasy Life hits on everything we look for,” Carter said.
“Their strong brand, incredible growth and the market size of sports gaming make for a compelling opportunity. As an avid fantasy football and Guillotine League player myself, this is a tech-forward play that we believe will be a game changer for fantasy sports and we’re proud to co-lead this round with our partners at SC Holdings.”
Good to know: California Attorney General Rob Bonta issued a statement on July 3 stating daily fantasy sports contests fall under the state’s definition of gaming and are not legal in California
Guillotine Leagues represent a week-to-week survival format where the fantasy football manager who scores the lowest amount of points each week is removed from the league entirely, as Fantasy Life completed its acquisition of the format in August 2024.
Fantasy Hub offers users a personalized space for daily player insights, real-time data, league tools and a fantasy scoreboard, also maintaining the ability to synchronize multiple leagues in which the player is involved in.
