- The effort aims to strengthen enforcement against illegal gambling in Quindío

Colombia’s gambling authority, Coljuegos, conducted a territorial training session in Armenia, the capital of Quindío, as part of its broader efforts to address illegal gambling activity.
The session was held in coordination with the National Police and the Quindío Lottery, and included participation from local operators, merchants and business representatives.
The session emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to tackle illegal gambling, which has a direct negative impact on resources allocated to subsidized healthcare.
To date, Coljuegos has received 180 reports concerning the alleged operation of illegal gambling activities in the department of Quindío. A few weeks ago, 96 illegal elements of games of luck and chance were seized through the department.
Luis Alfredo Escobar, VP of Operations at Coljuegos, stated: “Coljuegos remains committed to reaching all regions of the country, promoting legality even in the most remote areas. Only by working together can we strengthen the industry and increase funding for public health.”
According to the authority, representatives of the National Police from multiple municipalities in Quindío attended the event and voiced their commitment to ongoing training efforts focused on dismantling criminal networks financed by illegal gambling.
Good to know: In recent weeks, Coljuegos has confiscated approximately 75 unauthorized gambling devices in the municipalities of Armenia and La Tebaida
Carolina Jaramillo Quintero, Manager of the Quindío Lottery, said: “We are focused on encouraging legal betting, promoting reporting, and educating the public. Our goal is to increase health-related revenue and contribute to the region’s well-being.”
Coljuegos plans to continue its coordination with other institutions to address illegal gambling activities. The authority will carry on with training sessions and awareness initiatives directed at industry participants, oversight agencies, and the wider public.
