Macau reports $2.63bn GGR for May, up 5%

Key Points
- Macau has reported a record $2.63bn in GGR for the month of May, up 5% year-over-year
- This number is more than double the latest revenue figure reported by the Nevada Gaming Control Board
- Contributions form Macau’s Golden week and the opening of Capella hotel contributed to the month’s strong performance
Figures reported by the Macanese Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) have revealed a revenue figure of $2.63bn for the month of May, bringing the region’s overall cumulative GGR for 2025 so far up to $12.14bn.
This latest report shows a 5% uptick in May revenue year-over-year, with the accumulated GGR sum for the year so far also representing a 1.7% increase over figures from this time last year. Further, the GGR figure reported for the month of May not only represents the jurisdiction’s most lucrative month of 2025 so far, but also the strongest monthly performance since January 2020, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This monthly boost has been largely attributed to the region’s Golden Week holiday, which saw an influx of 850,000 tourists into the city over the course of the week. Despite this recent upswing, a shaky start to the year saw the region experience back-to-back year-over-year decreases in December and January, which has left the region slightly behind its overall revenue target for the year.
This newly posted GGR figure for May also highlights a rise from the $2.32bn reported for April, with Macau’s May GGR further eclipsing the latest figures to come out of Nevada. Indeed, during April, the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) reported that the state had generated a revenue sum of $1.2bn – down 0.5% year-over-year and almost half of the number reported by the DICJ for April 2025.
Good to know: During May, the Macanese Government recorded MOP 298.3bn for the first four months of the year – with total government revenue falling 4.8% year-over-year
Also during May, Macau saw the soft launch of the new Capella hotel within Galaxy Macau – which industry analysts have cited as an additional key revenue driver during the time-period thanks to the property drawing in an influx of VIP clientele.
