- In a statement, García alleged match-fixing involving seven players on the team
Yinaris García, now the former coach of Colombian soccer club Junior de Barranquilla, has alleged that seven of her players were involved in match-fixing.
After the club decided to terminate Garcia’s contract, which had been in effect since 2022, she released a statement claiming she became aware of match-fixing in the Women’s League through a group of Junior players.
According to her, they provided her with evidence implicating seven of their teammates. The information came to light on the same day her contract was terminated by the club’s management.
The statement, released in the coach’s personal social media profile, said: “The decision to terminate my employment was communicated to the players yesterday, which led to discontent among some team members. As a result, I was given evidence suggesting that poor results in several matches, both in the current and previous league seasons, were due to unsportsmanlike conduct by a group of seven players involved in match-fixing.”

Recent allegations of players being pressured to manipulate match outcomes, ranging from specific plays like corner kicks to final scores, have increasingly come to light. The most recent incident was revealed by former player Eduardo Pimentel and involves Boyacá Chicó, during their goalless draw against Santa Fe at El Campín.
The club also issued a statement announcing that the contract was terminated “unilaterally,” and that assistant coach Sandra Narváez will take over the role.
