South Dakota video lottery operators hoping for rise in bet limit

The current proposal would raise the bet limit from $2 to $4 per play.
Key Points
- A rise on the bet limit, as well as an increase on machines per license, included in proposal
- Laws surrounding these two areas has never been changed
According to local reports, stakeholders in South Dakota are calling for a rise in the video lottery bet limit, while also increasing the cap on machines per license.
This issue was raised by Troy Erickson of M.G. Oil, a company in Rapid City who operate video lottery, telling the state Lottery Commission that the South Dakota Licensed Beverage Dealers and Gaming Association are seeking a change in the law.
Within the proposal, it sets out raising the bet limit on video lottery from $2 per play to $4 per play, while it also looks to include more machines per license, looking to bring the total from 10 to 15. Changing the laws around these two areas would be a first in South Dakota since video lottery was first introduced in the state.
Those making the proposals will likely be aware that there has been opposition to changes to these laws in the past, owing to issues such as the rapid increase of video lottery, and gambling addiction.
Good to know: Video lottery legislation was passed in South Dakota in March 1989, with games beginning operation in October of that same year
This therefore is similar to the debate surrounding skill games, which have faced similar opposition, and in recent news saw a Pennsylvania Court overturn a Philadelphia ban on the games.
Currently in the Mount Rushmore State there are 1,398 licensed video lottery establishments, while in terms of machines the total reaches 11,092.
In other legal news today, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has granted the necessary approvals for Jackpot Digital to be considered a registered Gaming Related-Supplier in the Canadian province.
