Rio Las Vegas reopens following nine-month closure
Caesars Entertainment’s Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas reopened Tuesday following a nine-month closure.
The Rio is the last Caesars property to reopen.
The casino’s gaming floor will be open seven days a week but its hotel will move to weekend-only hours starting early next year. Hotel prices for the Rio are among the lowest in Las Vegas, with many sites listing rooms as low as $29.
The timing of the casino’s reopening is surely related to the Rio hosting the 2020 World Series of Poker Final Table next Monday. The WSOP usually attracts thousands of attendees but this year used a hybrid online / in-person tournament to limit exposure between players.
The Final Table of nine players will begin competing Monday afternoon with competition expected to wrap up by that night. The winner of the US tournament will then face the international tournament champion.
Separated from the Strip, the Rio becomes one of the last Las Vegas casinos to reopen from the March lockdown that closed all of the country’s commercial casinos.
The Rio’s Tuesday reopening included a food giveaway with 20,000 turkeys and cookies delivered to team employees. Headline entertainers Penn & Teller partook in the festivities.
