E. Sequoyah Simermeyer has been appointed VP, Strategic Partnerships at FanDuel. The role follows his previous position as Chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC), which he exited last week.
Simermeyer was presidentially appointed to his previous role in 2019, leading the NIGC through Covid-19 and into its post-Covid recovery. Upon his exit, he said, “I'm proud of the integral part this Agency has played in meeting the challenges of an evolving industry.”
In his appearance in Gaming America’s CEO Special in September, he expressed how in his early career he “wanted to play a role in trying to help Tribal governments be stewards of the resources that are important to Tribal communities,'” and also stated that “I knew as a native person, through my own experiences and interactions with other Tribal communities, that I always wanted to try to work on behalf of, or work with, Tribal Governments.”
In his latest role at FanDuel, Simermeyer will be a part of the company’s efforts to build sustainable commercial relationships, with a key focus on promoting economic developments that will aid Tribes in the US to support their sovereignty.
SVP, Strategic Partnerships Rikki Tanenbaum commented on the appointment, saying, “Sequoyah Simermeyer has been at the forefront of shaping and safeguarding Tribal gaming, focusing on priority issues and public policy for close to 25 years. We are very honored to welcome Chairman Simermeyer to the FanDuel leadership team, as he brings a career dedicated to addressing Tribal economic development.”
“I am joining the private sector for the first time and it mattered to me to join a team where I could use my background as a former regulator, legislative staffer and public servant to Indian Country,” Simermeyer added.
“FanDuel is the leader in mobile gaming and has helped shape the rise of the legalized and regulated marketplace in the U.S... I’m excited to help the team build out our capacity to work within Indian Country nationally to take advantage of opportunities ahead.”
