Nevada Gaming Control Board’s website targeted in cyber attack

The attack follows two high-profile incidents last year with MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has fallen victim to a cyber attack, marking the third such major data breach in the industry over the last six months.

The site has been offline for several days now but no financial or gaming license information is believed to have been stolen.

The news follows last year’s cyber attacks on Las Vegas’ largest resort operators, MGM and Caesars, which resulted in the theft of customer and employee data.

The NGCB released a statement via X, formerly known as Twitter, acknowledging that its website had been compromised.

The statement reads: “The Nevada Gaming Control Board became aware earlier this week that its public-facing website had been compromised. NGCB technology personnel initiated immediate steps to protect the website by taking it offline.

“The NGCB is working with experts to thoroughly assess the situation. While working to restore the full website, the NGCB is preparing to publish a temporary website for those seeking access to BGCB information and relevant weblinks.”

The Control Board is due to release Nevada’s statewide gaming revenue totals for 2023 and December next week. While the information would usually appear on the agency’s website, it may now appear on the temporary website once it is published.

In June 2023, Nevada lawmakers and Governor Joe Lombardo approved bill SB490, which allows funding for the NGCB to replace its technology system.

Last year, Gaming America reported on the cybersecurity incidents involving Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts, including MGM CEO Bill Hornbuckle’s comments on the incident
