MGM Resorts has released an official statement regarding company-wide system outages today. Certain systems have since been shut down with a view to solving a cybersecurity breach.
The statement reads, “MGM Resorts recently identified a cybersecurity issue affecting some of the company’s systems. Promptly after detecting the issue, we quickly began an investigation with assistance from leading external cybersecurity experts.
“We also notified law enforcement and took prompt action to protect our systems and data, including shutting down certain systems. Our investigation is ongoing, and we are working diligently to determine the nature and scope of the matter.”
No further comment has as of yet been provided about how many properties may be affected, or when systems will be restored.
In April, Gateway Casinos in Ontario also experienced system outages due to a cyber security incident and was forced to close its locations. Gateway Casinos recommenced operations around 10 days later.
Earlier this month, MGM Resorts and BetMGM announced that as part of Responsible Gaming Education Month, its program GameSense will be featured at nine NFL stadiums. Featuring responsible gaming messaging, during the 2023 football season, is part of a partnership between MGM and the American Gaming Association.
