The report is the first to combine reporting on BCLC's financial and ESG performance.

The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) has released its annual report, known as Winning With Purpose: BCLC’s Annual Report, for 2022-23.

The basis of this report is to highlight some of the key actions taken by the BCLC in meeting the goals set out in its environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework, underlining how on top of generating $1.6bn in net income to the province of British Columbia, it has continued to expand on its social and environmental commitments.

Some of the highlights of the report include BCLC’s actions to enhance its voluntary self-exclusion program known as Game Break, expand its indigenous reconciliation and relationship-building, build on its diversity, equity and accessibility, lay the groundwork for a decarbonization roadmap and adopt a Stakeholder Governance Framework.

Back in 2022, the BCLC set out three main themes with goals for 2030, which cover becoming an industry leader in addressing climate change, creating a positive social impact and governing in the public interest.

Manager of Sustainability Innovation at BCLC, Jim Gudjonson, said: “Guided by our social purpose, we’ve focused on engaging and collaborating with stakeholders over the past year to integrate our ESG framework towards ambitious 2030 goals,”

“This report tells the story of our purpose in action and, more importantly, the multiple ways we create value for our players and communities while generating net positive impacts on the planet.”

Towards the end of last month, the BCLC announced a new program for employees allowing them to substitute up to six statutory observed holidays in the BCLC calendar for other important days of religious, cultural or personal importance.
