According to data, there are 64,000 mobile sports betting user accounts in Nebraska this year, identified by GeoComply, despite the fact that wagers in the Cornhusker State need to be done in-person legally.
GeoComply works to ensure that its customers are complying with gambling restrictions, and according to their data, natives of Nebraska have been attempting to access sports betting apps that are legal in other states on their phones, with 79% of the attempts taking place in the neighboring state of Iowa.
According to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, the amount of money wagered in Iowa through sports betting websites and apps greatly exceeds the amount that is bet in-person in the Hawkeye state.
Players are allowed to register anywhere for sports gambling, but in order to physically place a bet, it must be done within state lines. Players are unable to do so within Nebraska state lines via a website or app, where it is not legal.
Legal in-person sports betting started in the state towards the end of June with the opening of the Warhorse Casino in Lincoln.
CEO, of Ho-Chunk Inc, the parent company of Warhorse Gaming and the economic development arm of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, Lance Morgan, commented on the matter, saying, “The potential for sports betting is much larger if it becomes mobile.”
Retail sports betting was also first introduced in the city of Omaha last week, with it being allowed at a temporary facility at another Warhorse Casino location, where horseracing and sports betting is integrated in the same area of the casino.
