Churchill Downs Racetrack recently kicked off a five-day celebration at Royal Ascot in honor of the 150th annual run of the Kentucky Derby. The race meet will wrap up June 24.
The Kentucky Derby began in 1875 and is known nationwide as the longest continually run US sporting event.
Guests can still get in on the festivities with photo ops, sip Mint Juleps and can view a display of the Kentucky Derby trophy.
Churchill Downs Racetrack VP of Marketing and Partnerships Casey Ramage said, “We are thrilled to highlight the Kentucky Derby internationally at Royal Ascot.
“Our storied history was inspired by English horse racing, so to begin celebrating our 150th anniversary at Ascot Racecourse is a meaningful honor.”
Churchill Downs Racetrack also recently released details for the 150th Run for the Roses. The celebration includes a year-long festivities in honor of the upcoming 150th race, which is scheduled for May 4, 2024.
Churchill Downs Racetrack President Mike Anderson noted the significance of this year’s event and said the destination remains committed to offering its guests quality entertainment.
He commented: "150 years of tradition, hospitality and the best horse racing in the world takes center stage as the Kentucky Derby celebrates an extraordinary achievement.
"To honor the significance of the anniversary, the rich history of the Derby and its place in our culture, we are excited to unveil new and enhanced guest experiences for decades to come."
