The Virginia Lottery Board has given Danville’s Caesars Virginia casino the thumbs up by approved an operating license for the property, according to a WDBJ7 local report. The temporary casino is set to open May 15.
Caesars said it expects its permanent casino to open in 2024.
The state of Virginia first welcomed casino gambling in 2020, after a lengthy legal process. Since opening the state to casino gambling, Caesars Virginia will be the third casino to take up resident within Virginia’s borders.
Caesars said it expects to invest close to $650m into the construction project.
Caesars Virginia General Manager Chris Albrecht noted that the project will pay homage to the regional architecture.
He told WDBJ7: “We’re keeping the three sisters smokestacks there, kind of our nod to the past there, and you’ll see this wonderful regional destination that truly will be one of the best regional properties that Caesars has to offer; and one I would say would be one of the best in the US.”
Since the brand’s formation in Reno, Nevada in 1937, Caesars Entertainment has expanded over the years to include facilities that operate under the Caesars, Harrah's, Horseshoe and Eldorado brand names.
The Virginia Lottery oversees sports betting and other wagering outlets throughout the state. It recently reached a milestone by becoming the first US lottery to operate its iLottery via a cloud-based program. NeoPollard Interactive (NPi) released an official statement that recognized the state lottery for its achievement.
The Virginia Lottery has been powered by NPi since 2016, when the group first launched its esubscriptions. Part of the lottery’s recent cloud implementation included NPi’s central gaming system (CGS) for draw games, NeoDraw and Neoplay, an eInstants remote gaming server (RGS).
