In September 2022, a Responsible Gaming Coalition of online gaming operators came together to discuss responsible gaming standards in the US industry. Fanatics, Hard Rock Digital and PointsBet have now joined that coalition, taking its number of operators up to nine.
The three new members join forces with the following six other Responsible Gaming Coalition members: Bally’s, BetMGM, DraftKings, Entain and MGM Resorts International.
The group is committed to 12 responsible gaming principles, taken from four core areas including agreements regarding: participation only in legal markets with consumer protections; instillment of responsible gaming culture; treatment of online gaming as an entertainment activity; and provision of additional tools and support for those who need it.
Anthony D'Angelo, Sr. Manager, Responsible Gaming for Fanatics Betting & Gaming, said, "We are committed to the 12 responsible gaming principals and providing our fans tools and resources to enjoy our products."
The principles will also undergo further external review from a panel of experts, which will create future guidance. Each operator has also reported on activities aligning with the principles to date.
Danny Crook, SVP of Operations at Hard Rock Digital, said, "Hard Rock Digital is pleased to have this opportunity to collaborate with our fellow operators to promote and maintain an industry-wide atmosphere of responsible gambling."
Actions from member organizations have so far included: launching responsible gaming tools and sites, appointing responsible gaming ambassadors, advocating for a nationwide responsible gaming toll-free helpline, and partnering with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), among other projects.
Rachel Kasper, SVP of Legal and Compliance of PointsBet US, said, "Responsible gambling is a core priority for our business and requires meaningful collaboration with all stakeholders, inclusive of operators competing within the same markets, to promote this aspect of our industry and ensure safe practices are followed."
