Pace-O-Matic says it supports Virginia’s new illegal gambling tip line
The company voiced its concerns for increasing illegal gaming machines and encourage police to crack down.
Pace-O-Matic has voiced its support for efforts in Virginia to combat illegal gambling. The company develops compliant skills games and said that it fully backs the measures taken by state law enforcement.
Group Chief Public Affairs Officer Mike Barley described the proliferation of illegal games statewide as a “growing problem” that is costing tax dollars and negatively impacting consumers throughout the Commonwealth.
Barley said: “We strongly support any effort that will rid Virginia of the plague of illegal gaming that is quickly spreading across the state.
“The Virginia State Police are correct in engaging the public to help put an end to this scourge.”
State police noted “they are creating a tip line where people can report illegal gambling related to the lottery, sports betting, casino gaming, fantasy contests, horse racing and pari-mutuel wagering.”
Bill HB 2295 is currently on the table before state legislators. If passed, the bill would advance both the regulation and taxation of skill games, which contributed more than $140m to Virginia’s Covid Relief Fund in 2020.
Barley noted that the state has lost an estimated $200m in tax revenue due to lack of regulations. He went on to explain that addressing the surge of illegal gambling machines springing up around the state should be a key focus for local law enforcement.
He said in closing: “The state police effort is a positive step forward to end illegal gaming, but they need help from lawmakers to make sure consumers are protected and only regulated games are able to operate in the state. This also leads to increased funding for the state.”
