Pennsylvania generates total gaming revenue of $491.6m for December

This 16% total GGR rise was bolstered by a strong performance from sports betting operators.
Pennsylvania’s total gaming revenue rose annually by 15.4% to reach $491.6m for December. For the full financial year, revenue reached a record $5.2bn, which is up by almost half a billion dollars from 2021.
Sports betting was the dominant betting sector in the Coal State. It saw a successful month, jumping 87.7% to $71.2m, with total handle rising by 0.59% to $754.8m. FanDuel (owned by Flutter) led sports betting revenue, boasting an impressive 48.9% while DraftKings came in second with 22.5%.
FanDuel’s sportsbook in Valley Forge casino was the leader of the pack for on-premise sportsbooks in the state, generating $34.1m – a significant 144.2% rise. DraftKings’ sportsbook at The Meadows casino followed with a $16m intake, which represented a 16% bump in annual revenue.
Of the retail casinos, Wind Creek Bethlehem was the highest earner in legacy games, earning $42.1m in revenue for December which was a 3% year-on-year increase for the venue. Rivers Philadelphia came in second place, with its revenue increasing by 10% year-on-year to hit $20m.
IGaming also fared well in the Coal State, rising by 31.8% year-over-year to $134.5m. Rivers Philadelphia and Valley Forge saw positive year-on-year rises in iGaming revenue, generating $28.5m and $26.9m respectively.
Of operators with multiple properties in the state, Penn Entertainment continued to be a dominant force in the Pennsylvanian market, raking in $127.9m from all its operations (which includes its lucrative Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course). Rush Street Interactive trailed Penn, taking in $85m for December – a 9% year-over-year increase.
