Genius Sports has been approved for a sports gaming supplier license in the state of Ohio by the Casino Control Commission. The newly acquired license brings the supplier’s total of North American operating licenses to 39.
The company currently operates in several states throughout the US, as well as in select Canadian provinces. Ohio sports fans will have access to Genius Sports’ NFL content once the state opens its commercial market early next year.
Genius Sports has functioned as the NFL’s official content distributor since April 2021. The duo recently expanded their ongoing sports betting content agreement to include sportsbook platforms throughout the United States. The initial partnership covered international markets but did not have a US focus, which is a key component of the amended agreement.
Company CEO Mark Locke commented: “We are honored that the state of Ohio has awarded Genius Sports its sports gaming supplier license to provide licensed sportsbooks across the Buckeye State with access to our groundbreaking NFL products and marketing services.”
Sports betting in Ohio will launch January 1, 2023. State lawmakers passed House Bill 29 toward the end of 2021, setting statewide legalized sports betting in motion.
“As a growing majority of US states legalize sports betting, Genius Sports welcomes the opportunity to work with states like Ohio, on providing sports fans with official sports data-driven solutions to power their sportsbooks,” Locke added.
Genius Sports recently turned its gaze toward new partnerships by signing agreements with 27 sportsbook customers throughout the quarter, including those with Bally’s Interactive, MaximBet and NorthStar Gaming.
In addition to its sportsbook deals, Genius Sports launched free-to-play games via its collaboration with several NFL teams, such as the Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Rams.
