2.4 million bets were placed from September 1 to September 11.

Kansas has seen a booming start to its sports betting trade, which officially launched September 1. Figures from the start of this month to September 11 show that over 2.4 million bets were placed in the Sunflower State during this period.

Kansans cashed in over $47m in winnings during this time. The most popular teams that bets were placed on were: the Kansas City Chiefs (NFL), the Kansas City Royals (MLB), the Kansas State Wildcats and the Kansas Jayhawks (both NCAA). The NASCAR races at the Kansas Speedway also drew plenty of interest from bettors.

Sporting events not involving native Kansas teams also drew a large amount of interest. In the NFL, The Arizona Chiefs vs the Arizona Cardinals game was a popular betting choice, as well as the Buffalo Bills vs the Los Angeles Rams.

The Hollywood Casino and Barstool sportsbook broke PENN Entertainment's record for a new property opening. This was chiefly down to its Hollywood Casino 400 NASCAR race, which took place on September 11, at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City; this event drew in a horde of bettors.

The development of The Hollywood Casino and Barstool was a huge breakthrough for Kansas sports betting in 2022, with the venue getting the green light to allow betting on 29 August. This sportsbook operates a temporary betting facility near Hollywood Casino’s Turn 2 Sports Bar and Restaurant.

Construction is already set to begin on a permanent Barstool facility with a full restaurant, field house games and accessibility to a patio overlooking Kansas Speedway. The state hopes that The Hollywood Casino will be even more of a draw for sports bettors once there is a permanent sportsbook available.
