Casinogrounds, a casino streaming company, has compiled research from a study that ranked the top ten lottery friendly states. The company analyzed Google search levels per state, as well as lottery ticket sales during 2021 to put together a list of the top ten lottery-loving states.
The research data ranked Massachusetts as the US state that loves the lottery the most. Yearly total lottery sales statewide reached $5.82bn in 2021.
Sales per capita in Massachusetts reached a total of $833.4m last year. Maryland and Michigan came in second and third with lottery sales in 2021 totaling $706.7m and $502m respectively.
Delaware and Washington DC grabbed the number four and five rankings. Other finalists include Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, New Jersey and Florida.
One Casinogrounds spokesperson said the data revealed that Americans spend an average of $317.14 a year on lottery tickets.
Results of the study reflected higher levels of lottery play in Eastern US states when compared to lottery sales in the Western part of the country.
Michigan grabbed the top spot for Google searches, reaching a 100 score, with Washington DC trailing behind by one point. Along with ranking the highest in lottery searches on Google, the state has also reported a growing demand for online gaming. Activity from online casino and poker sites in Michigan brought in $757m in revenue.
Online gambling has been legal in Michigan since January 2021. Analysts project an increasing demand for online gambling that will create rapid industry growth as more states push to open regulated markets.
