Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa has appointed the first African-American woman to serve as its president, according to reports.

As per the Associated Press, current president of MGM National Harbor Melonie Johnson will take over at the Borgata casino in Atlantic City.

While the casino didn’t formally announce the move, it did confirm it in a response to an inquiry, with a starting date yet to be confirmed.

Johnson will replace current president Marcus Glover.

Johnson has been in her role as president and COO of MGM National Harbor since December 2017, previously tasked as the general manager then property president and COO of Gold Strike Casino from 2015.

She has also previously held multiple roles at Penn National Gaming.

According to casino analyst and historian, Daniel Heneghan, who has followed the Atlantic City casino industry since 1978, Johnson is the first African-American woman to hold the title of president at any of the city’s casinos.

The Borgata casino was Atlantic City’s best-performing property in 2019, bringing in $797.8m of revenue, a 4% year-on-year rise.
