SuperBook Sports and the University of Denver on Tuesday marked the end of the first academic year of their exclusive sports betting partnership.
When the deal was announced in September 2021, it was one of the first of its kind between a sportsbook operator and an American university. The two parties noted the school’s nickname, Pioneers, was apropos in the new normal of sports betting becoming legalized in many US states – including Colorado.
Since the partnership started, SuperBook Sports has been present at all major Pioneer athletic events, and it offered special “odds boosts” on big hockey games.
The company noted it donated $10,000 toward sports camps for victims of December’s Marshall Fire near Boulder.
This week, the University of Denver took home its ninth NCAA men’s hockey national championship. The Pioneers claimed the title on Saturday night after a comeback win over Minnesota State-Mankato at the Frozen Four in Boston.
Officials from SuperBook Sports will be in attendance on Tuesday night at Magness Arena, when the Pioneers officially celebrate their championship on campus.
In addition, SuperBook Sports said it will be continuing to provide unique experiences for DU supporters. One lucky fan won a VIP experience to take in all the action of the finals at the 7,000-square-foot, Las Vegas-style casino at the SuperBook at The Lodge Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado, along with three guests.
“We knew all about the athletic success and hockey tradition at DU when we started this deal,” SuperBook Sports’ Vice President of Marketing Kristin Mackey said in a statement. “To be celebrating a national title in the first season is amazing. It is a credit to the hard work and standards that [Head Coach] David Carle and the players put in to make this season go down in history.”
Jay Kornegay, SuperBook Sports Executive Vice President of Race and Sports Book Operations, added: “Ever since our partnership began in September, it has exceeded expectations. Congratulations to the entire Pioneer hockey community on another national championship.”
