ICE VOX: Nevada Gaming Control Board discusses cheating in casinos

James Taylor chronicles the change in cheating at casinos, from yo-yos to kickstands, light optic devices and the Nickrash Device which led to over $6m in fraudulent jackpots.
As long as gaming has existed there have been those who wish to cheat the system, make a quick bit of cash and get off scot free.
Indeed, casinos in Nevada lose millions per year thanks to cheaters. The first line of defense against these individuals is the Nevada Gaming Control Board’s Enforcement Division, which works to uncover these insidious plots before they can take place.
Speaking at ICE VOX, James Taylor, Chief of the Enforcement Division, chronicalled the details regarding these, often imaginative, cheats.
Taylor leads a team of 90 agents, who are tasked with preventing crimes at over 3,000 properties across the Silver State.
“We have around 500 arrests per year, 25% of these are employees,” Taylor said. “These problems are often caused by addiction, money problems, among other things.
“There are people across the world whose whole lives are dedicated to cheating in casinos. They do not stop,” he continued.
“Nuisance crimes, casino cheats, employee crimes and organized crime. These are different types of cheats you’ll find.”
The development of technology has, in many ways, curbed the spread of cheating. However, all is not well, according to Taylor: “Many machines have glitches that are not found during development. Cheaters will find these glitches.”
Clearly, as technology advances, there are more opportunities to cheat. Collusion is also an issue, with organized criminals working closely to steal huge sums of money.
