This is the next step in company plans for Latin American expansion.

AstroPay has expanded its digital payment offering in Brazil through a local payment method called Pix. This is the latest in a series of the company’s expansion plans. The company hopes the further expansion will reach as many as 1.5 million users and more than 200 merchants solely within the Brazilian market.

The company has grown within the Latin American market since its launch in Brazil last December. Its payment solutions are now available in Peru, Chile, Mexico and Colombia for small and medium-sized enterprises.

AstroPay will offer two Pix payment options by way of the Pix native view and Software Developer Kit (SDK) for merchants.

Those using the native view will be able to check out directly from the merchant’s site through a Pix QR code. This option keeps consumers from being redirected to the Pix site for payment. All merchants will have access to the native view payment option.

AstroPay CEO Mikael Lijtenstein said: “As an agile fintech company, we strive to provide our users and merchants with the best payment experience and constantly invest in technology to adapt to their needs.

"This new capability will help merchants to better connect with their users who prefer to pay with Pix, which has revolutionized the payments industry in Brazil. By utilizing AstroPay wallet, users will experience quicker and frictionless payment journey with a payment method of their choice.”

Pix was created by the Central Bank of Brazil and was launched in October 2020. Since its debut, Pix’s payment volume accounts for more than 80% of the country’s debit and credit card transactions.
