Both online sports betting and iGaming are set to go live in Ontario on April 4, 2022. As the launch fast approaches, a flood of operators and suppliers are gaining access to the market. One operator set to launch in Canada next month is Rush Street Interactive (RSI), following its earning of an operator license in the province.
This license, which was granted by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), will allow the operator to launch both its sports betting and real-money casino offerings via the BetRivers brand.
“The receipt of our registration in Ontario is an important milestone that demonstrates our commitment to operating only in legalized markets where we pay local taxes, and we are grateful for the trust of the AGCO,” said Richard Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer of RSI.
Presently, RSI operates in Ontario with its free-to-play social games platform. Come April 4, Canada will become the third country to make the operator’s real-money offering legal, following the United States and Colombia.
“We are now one step closer to launching the BetRivers real-money online casino and sportsbook in Ontario and bringing our unique betting options, such as our innovative peer-to-peer slot tournaments or same game parlays, fast payouts, and award-winning customer service to the province’s millions of residents,” continued Schwartz.
RSI will become one of a number of operators offering betting options to Canadian players this spring. Indeed, brands such as PointsBet and theScore have also gained operator licenses in recent months.
The launch of sports betting and iGaming in Ontario marks the next chapter in a long process in Canadian politics, with organizations such as the Canadian Gaming Association spending decades petitioning for the opening up of the national gaming market.
