As the launch of sports betting and iGaming in Canada’s most populous province looms ever closer, one of the region’s native operators has taken a step towards launching its offering.
theScore Bet, the sports betting and iGaming arm of theScore, has received registration as an internet gaming operator with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
With the launch of iGaming in the region slated for April 4, 2022, this marks another step in the operator's path to launch, following its gaining of the Gaming Labs International certification last year.
John Levy, CEO of theScore, sees this as another invaluable step towards launching in the province.
“We’re thrilled to be one of the first operators to receive an internet gaming operator certificate of registration from the AGCO as we prepare for Ontario’s new regulated market,” he said.
“We’ve been and will continue to be at the forefront as regulated internet gaming is introduced in Ontario and are beyond excited to be able to bring theScore Bet to our home market on April 4. Finally, the countdown to launch has begun.”
Following the announcement that iGaming would be coming to Ontario in spring, operators, suppliers and regulators alike hailed the decision.
Paul Burns, CEO and President of the Canadian Gaming Association, noted: “This is another major milestone and achievement for Ontario's gaming industry after sports betting. The move to establish a regulated iGaming market in this province will ensure that the people of Ontario have access to safe and legal gambling options online while encouraging investment and job creation in Ontario.”
