Online sports betting to become legal in the state on January 1.

Nuvei, a globally recognized provider of online payment options, has been approved to operate in the state of Louisiana. The Montreal-based company will have permission to offer payment processing services to Louisianans placing bets on sports as well as daily fantasy sports.

The announcement was made by Nuvei after the Louisiana Gaming Control Board approved the Montreal-based company’s application.

With this technology online, operators in Louisiana will be able to utilize the multiple payment options available to them. The innovative technology allows for more payment types to be used as well as for the optimization of transactions in a way that drives additional revenue streams.

The move into Louisiana is the latest victory by Nuvei, which has been rapidly making headway into the American market. It now operates in 17 states where online betting is legal and can count among its partners such industry leaders as Carousel Group, 888 and SI Sportsbook, PrizePicks and BetMGM. Just last week, it was announced that the B2B technology group would become operational in Arizona, where online sports betting began operating in September of this year.

Louisiana is following closely behind. Commercial retail sportsbooks first became operational in the Bayou State on October 31, and online betting – Nuvei's bread and butter in terms of gaming – is expected to go online on January 1, 2022.

Once up and running, the market is expected to be considerable in the state, with estimates suggesting that operator revenue could be as high as $200m with over $2.5bn in annual sports wagers made.
