The sports data provider is currently awaiting its full license authorization.

Genius Sports, an official data and technology provider, today announced that the company has been granted a temporary license as a sports wagering service provider by the State of Louisiana Gaming Control Board.

Online sports betting for Louisiana was initially legalized in June 2021 and is set to launch in the coming weeks. Despite a number of delays caused by Hurricane Ida, the state saw its first two in-person sports wagers placed this week at Caesars-operated properties.

The authorization, which will initially last six months, sees Genius Sports become licensed in 18 states.

“We are honored that the Louisiana Gaming Control Board has awarded Genius Sports its temporary sports wagering service provider authorization to provide licensed sportsbooks with access to our groundbreaking NFL products and media solutions,” said Mark Locke, CEO of Genius Sports.

“As an increasing number of U.S. states legalize sports betting, Genius Sports welcomes the opportunity to work with states like Louisiana, on providing sports fans with official sports data-powered solutions.”

The company is currently awaiting its full accreditation in the Bayou State.

Genius is currently operational in over 150 countries across the globe, partnering 400 sporting organizations. The data provider has partnerships with the NFL, EPL, FIBA, NCAA, Nascar, AFA and PGA.

Earlier this month Genius agreed an official data, NFL and fan engagement partnership with PointsBet. The deal will see Genius provide the operator with official NFL data and statistics during the 2021/22 season.
