As FanDuel continues its efforts to promote responsible gaming, the company has announced the appointment of sports radio and television host Craig Carton (pictured) as its national responsible gaming ambassador.
Carton, who is known for his vocal advocacy of responsible gaming, currently hosts the sports radio show “Carton & Roberts”. The media personality will take on his role with FanDuel immediately, focusing on three areas including advocacy, prevention and awareness, and content development focused on the importance of wagering within limits.
"My story and personal history with gambling has been well documented," said Carton.
“More than ever, I want to use my experience and platform to shine a meaningful spotlight on the issue of problem gambling. It was important to me that I find a real partnership with a company that shared my passion for this issue. It became clear FanDuel shared the same goals and was comfortable working transparently with me for the sole purpose of protecting people."
In regards to advocacy, Carton will join the company's Responsible Gaming Steering Committee chaired by FanDuel's president and interim CEO Amy Howe. The radio host will also take part in frequent speaking events that promote responsible gaming education with a specific focus on new customers; both in new states and with 21–25-year-old consumers. Finally, Carton will provide insight on FanDuel's current development of artificial intelligence capabilities that spot problematic play patterns faster and more accurately.
In terms of the sports betting group’s second focus, Carton will play a role in sharing prevention messaging to encourage the adoption of FanDuel’s responsible gaming tools; he will also take part in developing its responsible gaming focused advertising campaigns.
"We are absolutely thrilled to partner with Craig to place even more emphasis on responsible gaming behaviors," added Mike Raffensperger, chief marketing officer, FanDuel Group.
"Everyone at FanDuel understands the importance of protecting our customers who are also our family, friends, neighbors and community members. Craig's powerful personal story will help fuel our mission of making sure no bet placed results in hurting a loved one."
FanDuel currently has a presence in every state throughout the US; the sports-tech company also has offices in New York, California, New Jersey, Florida, Oregon and Georgia. The group is a subsidiary of Flutter Entertainment.
