A new survey from the American Gaming Association (AGA) finds that two-thirds (65%) of Americans believe that gaming provides a positive benefit to the U.S. economy.

The AGA’s American Attitudes on Casino Gaming 2021 survey also reports that 77% of Americans describe gaming as a growing industry, up from 73% in 2019.

Nearly nine in 10 Americans (87%) believe that gambling is an acceptable form of entertainment for themselves and others, while 73% support legalized sports betting in their home state.

The AGA released the survey results as part of Responsible Gaming Education Week, a time when industry stakeholders come together to promote responsible gaming education.

“We are a committed, responsible partner and economic driver in communities across the country,” said AGA President and CEO Bill Miller. “Because of this, we’ve risen from the most devastating period in our history and embarked on a record-setting comeback.

AGA partnered with Kanter to survey 2,000 American voters aged 21 and older between Aug. 13 – Sept. 1, 2021 and with YouGov, which conducted a survey of 2,033 Americans aged 21 and older between June 26-30, 2021.

Results from the two surveys have a margin of error of +/-2%.

Among other highlights were that 57% of Americans believe the gaming industry gives back to communities where it operates, 78% say that the industry employs a diverse workforce, and 77% believe gaming caters to a diverse cliental.

Almost half (43%) of past-year gamblers are aware of at least one responsible gaming resource via phone or text helplines, while one-third (33%) are aware of counseling or telehealth support.

Added Miller, “Responsible Gaming Education Week provides an opportunity to highlight the tremendous work our members and industry do every day to invest in responsible gaming education. As legal gaming expands to new geographies and verticals, everyone engaged with legal gaming must work together to grow responsibly—our collective success depends on it.”
