Part of SG’s plan to become a content-led sustainable growth company.

Scientific Games has today announced the acquisition of the Sydney-based content studio Lightning Box. The deal sees Scientific Games continue its push to expand into a number of different platforms and regions.

In a statement, SG highlighted that the agreement is a key step in the company’s plan to become a content-led sustainable growth company. SG, who develops games, casino systems and sports betting platforms among other products, also see this as an opportunity for the continued expansion of the group’s digital presence.

"Wow, what an amazing opportunity and recognition of our team's efforts. Joining the Scientific Games team and working even more closely with them comes at the perfect time to drive forward our ambitious product innovation plans,” Peter Causley, CEO and co-founder of Lightning Box, said.

“Having been an OpenGaming partner since its early days, we knew that Scientific Games had the capabilities to propel our games to new heights. We're now in a better position than ever to bring our robust pipeline of high-quality slots more effortlessly to our global online casino partners.”

Lightning Box is an Australian-based slot developer who has been producing content for land-based properties for a number of years. The studio develops games such as ChickenFox, Lightning Horseman, Lightning Leopard, ChickenFox5x Skillstar, Astrocat and Silver Lion. It currently works with a number of North American brands including, BetMGM, Rush Street, Golden Nugget, Fanduel, LeoVegas and William Hill.

Dylan Slaney, SVP Gaming, digital at Scientific Games, added: "Lightning Box games are hugely popular with slots players around the world, and we're excited to welcome these talented game designers to our team. Our strategy is a simple one:  talented, passionate people make great games and the addition of the Lightning Box team is another example of this and how we will continue to be the iGaming industry leader."

The two companies already have a long-standing partnership, with Lightning Box utilizing SG’s OpenGaming platform throughout the US.
