He placed a $2m bet with William Hill at 10-1, which would pay $20m if the Astros win it all. He also wagered $1m with FanDuel also at 10-1.
McIngvale, who lives in Texas, traveled to Indiana to place the biggest wagers, but he didn’t stop there. He went to DraftKings for a $250,000 wager on the Astros and traveled to Colorado for a $100,000 wager with The Score, which has Houston at 16-1.
In total he is risking $3.35m on the hometown Astros, who ended Wednesday with a 46-28 record for the best in the American League.
McIngvale has a history of making outlandish wagers, only to hedge them with promotional giveaways at Gallery Furniture. In this case, customers at the furniture store who spend $3,000 or more by this October will get their money back if Houston wins the World Series.
An Astros title would also net McIngvale approximately $35.6m.
Mattress Mack already hit big once this year, betting nearly $3.5m on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to cover the Super Bowl spread of +3.5. The wager won him around $2.7m.
However, he lost big in the NCAA Tournament, betting $1m on the Houston Cougars to win the national championship at 9-1 odds. The Cougars lost in the Final Four semifinals.
McIngvale told ESPN’s David Purdum there are more Astros bets to come.
"I'm sure I'll be placing more [on the Astros] as we go on to the end of the season and hopefully get to the playoffs," he said. "I'm not done yet, but I'm about 80 or 90% done."
