Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chair nominee Brian Quintenz has alleged the Co-Founders of Gemini, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, have misled President Donald J. Trump regarding his appointment.
Quintenz currently awaits Senate confirmation for his nomination. However, the Co-Founders sent a letter to the Senate, asking lawmakers to reconsider appointing Quintenz.
According to messages Quintenz released on social media, the Winklevoss twins claim the CFTC has been engaged in “7 years of lawfare trophy hunting.”
Furthermore, Tyler Winklevoss wrote, “Our complaint raises serious questions and concerns about the culture of the agency that you are about to chair and its overall fitness on the eve of it being contemplated as a major regulator for the crypto industry.”
He went on to task how Quintenz would “align with President Trump and the Administration’s mandate to end the lawfare and make amends for it” if appointed.
Quintenz explained his views in a recent post from his X account.
He commented online, “I’ve never been inclined to release private messages. But in light of my support for the President and belief that he might have been misled, I’ve posted here the messages that include the questions Tyler Winklevoss asked me pertaining to their prior litigation with the CFTC. I believe these texts make it clear what they were after from me, and what I refused to promise.
“It’s my understanding that after this exchange they contacted the President and asked that my confirmation be paused for reasons other than what is reflected in these texts.”
The CFTC Chair nominee went on to add he believes integrity and transparency are important.
He said in closing, “Protecting the President and his agenda are more important than any job. I am proud to have consistently supported President Trump since 2016, having served in his first administration and on the transition team for his second administration, and through my recent nomination process and confirmation hearing testimony in front of the U.S. Senate.
“I look forward to continuing to support his agenda in whatever capacity I can.”
