Maryland Lottery and Gaming released a report for August 2025, stating that the sports wagering market contributed $9m to the state throughout the month, reflecting continued growth in both retail and mobile betting.
During the month, sports bettors in the state wagered $434.2m, with $381.8m paid out in prizes. Sportsbook operators retained 12.1% of the total handle.
Retail sportsbooks contributed 15% of their taxable proceeds to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which supports public education programs. In comparison, mobile operators contributed 15% to the Blueprint Fund and 5% to the state’s General Fund.
In August, combined contributions to the Blueprint Fund exceeded $6.8m, and over $2.2m in mobile proceeds were allocated to the General Fund.
Maryland also welcomed a new mobile operator, bet365, which conducted a controlled demonstration on August 28 and officially launched on August 30 in partnership with Charles County-based Riverboat on the Potomac. The state now operates 12 mobile platforms and 12 retail sportsbook locations.

For the month, retail sportsbooks handled $7.6m in wagers and paid $6.2m in prizes, while mobile platforms processed $426.6m and paid $375.5m. The taxable win for retail and mobile operators totaled $45.5m, generating $9m in state contributions.
Since the launch of Maryland’s sports wagering program in December 2021, cumulative contributions have included nearly $190m to the Blueprint Fund, approximately $4m to the General Fund, and $4.76m in expired prizes directed to the Problem Gambling Fund.
