ESPN Bet offers injury assurance prior to NFL kickoff

Key Points
- If the injury occurs as part of a pre-game parlay, SGP or teaser, the remaining legs of the wager will remain open and the odds will be recalculated with the affected leg excluded
- DraftKings also unveiled a new Early Exit program, offering bettors the chance to receive cash credits equal to the amount wagered if an injury were to impact the result
ESPN Bet has introduced a new injury insurance program for bets affected by any injury which takes place throughout a sporting event, following similar initiatives brought forth by FanDuel and DraftKings prior to the 2025-2026 NFL season which begins on September 4.
“Players who placed a wager on a single pre-game straight bet that settles as loss as a result of an injury by what ESPN Bet deems as eligible for Injury Insurance are eligible for 100% insurance on the specific wager paid back in Bonus Bet(s),” the operator said within its terms and conditions.
“If the Injury Insurance is part of a pre-game Parlay, Same Game Parlay (SGP) or Teaser, the remaining legs of the wager will remain open, and the odds of the wager will be recalculated excluding the leg the qualifies for the Injury Insurance.”
The decision follows a similar initiative introduced by FanDuel on September 2, which allows for users to receive bonus bet credits in the event of an injury causing the bet to be deemed unsuccessful.
Good to know: The American Gaming Association announced US residents are expected to place an estimated $30bn in wagers on the upcoming 2025 NFL season on August 28
DraftKings also unveiled a new Early Exit program, offering bettors the chance to receive cash credits equal to the amount wagered if an injury were to impact the result. If a player wagered upon gets hurt within the first quarter of a respective game, FanDuel will pay out all straight bets in bonus bet credits within 24 hours.
While the new initiatives may translate into the NBA and NHL seasons as well, it does not come as a surprise to see the operators introduce new injury insurance just days before the start of the NFL season. Whether it be first touchdowns, anytime touchdown bets or player props, no sport is greater affected by injuries within the game than football.
