AGA projects a record $30bn will be wagered legally on the 2025 NFL season

The prediction represents an 8.5% increase compared to last year’s $27.6bn.
Key Points
- The estimate covers preseason, futures, playoffs and Super Bowl LX
- Responsible betting remains central, with the “Have A Game Plan” campaign at the forefront
The American Gaming Association (AGA) has announced that Americans are expected to place an estimated $30bn in wagers on the upcoming 2025 NFL season.
This marks an 8.5% increase over the revised $27.6bn handle from last year.
The estimate covers all legal betting activity across the season, including preseason games, futures booked as early as March, the playoffs and Super Bowl LX scheduled for February 2026.
AGA President and CEO Bill Miller described legal wagering as a way to “enhance the fun and friendly competition that make NFL games and traditions even more special,” while reinforcing that operators and regulators must continue to promote shared responsibility around gambling practices.
Central to the AGA’s messaging is its Have A Game Plan Bet Responsibly campaign, launched in 2019, which encourages bettors to view wagering as entertainment rather than investment.
The campaign promotes principles such as setting a budget, keeping betting social, understanding the odds, using only regulated platforms and avoiding player harassment.
Good to know: AGA recently reported that the illegal and unregulated US gaming market generated $53.9bn in revenue in 2024
Methodologically, the AGA based its forecast on national handle growth in 2025 combined with football-specific reports from select states.
Consumer support remains strong, with 75% of Americans in favor of legal sports wagering in their home state and 90% considering it an acceptable form of entertainment.
