Florida Governor issued alligator death roll by Culinary Union

Key Points
- Culinary Union 226 Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge has lashed out against Florida Governer Ron DeSantis
- The statement has been issued in response to DeSantis’ remarks that the Union engages in fraudulent election activities
Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge has gone on the offensive against Republican Florida Governer Ron DeSantis, following remarks made by DeSantis accusing the union of participating in election fraud.
Specifically, DeSantis – who in January spearheaded a proposal for restrictions on ballot measures – launched accusations of ballot harvesting in Nevada as part of a recent push to support Trump’s recent denouncement of voting by mail. The Florida Governor went on to accuse the Culinary Union in Nevada of utilizing “intimidation” linked to the observation of physical votes – stating that unions of states in which mail voting is prioritized are in violation of “secret ballot” principles.
In response, Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer, Ted Pappageorge has issued this official response, “It’s typical of Governor Ron DeSantis to bully cooks, housekeepers and food servers. He’s about as anti-union as they come. DeSantis has supported breaking public service employees unions, opposed increasing the minimum wage, and supported a national ‘Right to Work’ freeloader Act to break up private sector unions.
Good to know: Culinary Union 226 is no stranger to feisty exchanges, with its November 2024 strike against Virgin Hotels leading to 57 arrests
“Maybe if DeSantis and his MAGA buddies focused on the out-of-control cost of eggs, beef, and rent in his own state, instead of running around locking up dishwashers and landscapers and attacking Culinary Union members, he might have some credibility. Until then he should just shut his mouth.”
More recent action from the Union has saw the organization reach a deal – alongside the Bartenders Union – reach an agreement with Virgin Hotels Las Vegas in January. Also in Q1, the Culinary Union 226 affirmed a bill to end taxes on tips and subminimum wages.
