Paraguayan authorities seize 85 illegal slot machines in San Lorenzo

Authorities are intensifying enforcement against unauthorized gambling operations.

Authorities in Paraguay have seized more than 80 slot machines during a joint enforcement action in the city of San Lorenzo.

The initiative successfully managed to uncover unlicensed gambling operations across multiple different venues in the Paraguayan city.

The inspection was led by the National Directorate of Tax Revenue (DNIT) with the support of the National Gambling Commission (Conajzar).

It resulted in the provisional closure of seven establishments operating without legal permits as they did not have the patent for the activity, which is gaining traction in the country’s market as it gets new authorized operators.

According to Conajzar President Carlos Liseras, the machines were being used in contravention of national gaming laws, including in unauthorised public spaces. 

Liseras praised the coordination between DNIT’s anti-smuggling units and Conajzar’s field offices, besides saying “it is a really successful operation considering that we have seized a large number of slot machines that were being exploited clandestinely.”

Under Paraguayan law, slot machine operations must be licensed and restricted to authorized gaming venues before being set to the public. 

The lack of valid commercial permits will lead to immediate sanctions, with authorities like Liseras confirming that further inspections will continue in the region.
