Key Points
- The potential transaction comes as many around the sports betting industry reportedly believe sportsbooks and prediction markets will become integrated in the coming months
- While Railbird failed to provide comment on the sale, DraftKings stated it is general policy to not speak on the specifics of any possible acquisition
With many around the sports betting industry believing sportsbooks and prediction markets are set to become integrated by the conclusion of 2025, DraftKings has reportedly begun talks to acquire prediction markets platform Railbird Exchange which recently gained federal licensure.
No financial terms or agreement have been reached at the time of writing, with Railbird choosing not to comment on the potential transaction while DraftKings stated it is general policy to avoid speaking on the specifics of any potential acquisition.
DraftKIngs had previously applied for a federal license that would grant authorization to operate prediction markets but officially withdrew the application in April 2025, originally filed under “DraftKings Predict” with the National Futures Association.
Railbird Exchange received its designated contract market (DCM) license from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on June 18 and was founded by Miles Saffran and Edward Tian in 2021.
Good to know: DraftKings officially agreed to return approximately $3m to 7,000 Connecticut players who participated in select bonus offers from October 19, 2021 through January 4, 2023, which promised a deposit match or deposit bonus
FanDuel has also expressed interest in entering the prediction markets industry, reportedly eyeing a strategic partnership with Kalshi in June 2025, just a month after Flutter Entertainment CEO Peter Jackson stated the operator is keeping an eye on the offering’s growth.
Due to platforms such as Kalshi and Railbird operating with federal licensing, the companies are currently able to conduct business in states such as California and Texas where sports betting has yet to be legalized.
